xvii ABSTRACT In any production process, there are usually unproductive times due to different factors, it is very important that companies know the different causes that generate unproductive times since these issues their productivity and competitiveness. According to Chase, J. & Aquilano, N., (2004), unproductive time is defined as the time in which effective work is not executed, it not only means a loss of money for the company but if this time Comes with problems outside the worker himself can be a problem that damages even the foundations of the development of the center. According to Escalante, A. & González, J., (2016) unproductive time can be derived from numerous factors, these are: Downtime due to management deficiencies: time during which man or machine, or both, are inactive because management has failed to plan, direct, coordinate, or inspect effectively. Downtime attributable to the worker: time during which the worker, the machinery or both are inactive for reasons that could be remedied by the worker. How the content of the work is increased by the inactivity of the worker is when it remains idle, suffers accidents or when working carelessly because it generates waste of time, materials. This degree project arises from the need of the company CORIMEXO S.A. to reduce the presence of factors that generate downtime thus affecting the productivity of the metalworking area, where the manufacture of metal structures is carried out. The study is based on determining productive and non-productive elements of the process employing a survey of information based on the monitoring of the production process, time taking, analytical course diagrams, route diagrams, work sampling, check sheets, and other tools of Industrial Engineering. In addition, alternatives for improvement will be analyzed according to the causes that generate the greatest impact in the area, in such a way that unproductive times are reduced, thus improving productivity.
